About Us

Bad stock photography perpetuates negative stereotypes about the lives of wheelchair users. Its use reinforces the low standard of production values and lack of authenticity that is currently deemed acceptable when depicting the lives of wheelchair users.  The ongoing misrepresentation of contemporary wheelchair users highlights societal bias and a lack of understanding of their lives.

In addition, photos of people in ill-fitting and unsuitable hospital style wheelchairs normalizes their use as acceptable forms of wheeled mobility to the general public, when in fact they are highly unsuitable and detrimental for long term use.

The following photo pairs illustrate the difference between particularly offensive stock photography and real life.  The person's Instagram username is featured below their photo.
